Some of you may have read my first book, Be Fruitful & Multiply. In this book, I discuss God’s first instructions to mankind when He created us. These words were preceded by some very strong examples of the God-kind of communication.
In the first book of the Bible, Genesis – in its first verses – we will find some very examples as to how speech is an important tool for shaping our world. In those first verses, we learn that in the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, there was nothing:
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. –Genesis 1:2
The term formless and empty actually indicates a high level of chaos! Everything was in disarray and the Master Craftsman of the universe had a lot of work to do. Well, God didn’t jump out into the atmosphere, roll up His proverbial sleeves and begin to construct the world. He didn’t draw out plans and set up a scheduled moment to begin the work of creation. The first thing God did was speak!
And God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light.
And this is a sign to us, and really the beginning of a spiritual law that works around us all the time.
The spoken word sets thoughts in motion.
